Sirach 24.31

I said, “I will water my garden and drench my flower beds.”  And lo, my canal became a river, and my river a sea.

Reflection

Such as it is for those who experience a thirst for the Word, and turn to this well which springs up to eternal life, in order to water the thirsty gardens of their heart; the flower beds of their minds.  If they persevere they will find that the canal they believed was the Word was in fact, a river.  And continuing on in wonder, they see the river is in fact a sea!  Oh ineffable, unspeakable, glorious Word, who is beyond our bounds, who overflows our tiny hearts.  Nothing can contain thee!  We drift along in you in wonder; are swallowed up in your sea.  We who consume you are consumed by you; we who receive you are received by you.  How can a soul be consumed by you, yet find itself?  How can all identity be lost, yet true identity be found?

“Their life shall become like a watered garden” (Jeremiah 31.12)
