The Lord’s mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning.
This passage does not mean the Divine Mercy is everlasting, although it is. Nor does it mean it is renewed every day, although it is. Note, rather, the use of the plural – “mercies” – in conjunction with “they are new every morning.” Infinite, then, are the attributes or manifestations of the Divine Mercy. It must not be seen just as the source of forgiveness only. Rather, his mercies in all their splendor spill out onto us each day in an ever new, ever changing variety, though he himself is unchanged. Our life in Christ will never end, and we will never see an end to his infinitely various mercies, in this life or the next. Faith is required to see them in this life, and we must be constant in our devotion to them and always share them with others, never being stingy, selfish or counting the cost.
