Psalm 119.9-16

How shall the young remain sinless?

By obeying your word.

-but first they must know that word and ponder on it in their heart

I have sought you with all my heart

let me not stray from your commands

-the soul that seeks and is led to the Word wishes to remain bound there in freedom and truth and fears falling out of the sheepfold; fears offending the love of the shepherd

I treasure your promise in my heart

lest I sin against you.

-always and everywhere we must treasure God’s promise, for where our treasure is there shall our heart be.

Blessed are you, O Lord;

teach me your statutes

-the soul that has been brought to submission longs for the pure milk, that is, the true teaching offered in God’s Word (1 Peter 2.2)

I rejoiced to do your will

as though all riches were mine.

-my food is to do the will of He who sent me (John 4.34)

I will ponder all your precepts

and consider your paths.

-to meditate on your Word, and consider that He is the Way, and to walk in His Truth and thus find Life.

I will not forget your word.

-O Word, bind me to thyself
