Isaiah 62.2

"You shall be called by a new name pronounced by the mouth of the Lord."

Reflection

Our parents gave us our present name, indicating that we are citizens of earth belonging to them.  When God himself names us forever it will indicate that we are permanent citizens of heaven belonging to Him.  If our present names have no relationship whatsoever to the mystery of who we are as unique individuals what will our heavenly names be like, unique to us alone throughout the entire kingdom of the blessed?  Given to us by our very Creator himself, our glorious name will be perfect in every way.  It will describe the unique mystery of our individual personhood, our personality, our relationship to God our bridegroom.  Will it not contain, as part of it, an indication of the struggles and trials we endured to persevere and grow in faith and obedience while on earth, like a badge of honor?  So too it will name the type of Spirit given to us and to us alone.  "To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is given for some benefit." (1 Corinthians 12.7)

This naming is not an impersonal event, a one time assignment when we are finally permitted entrance into the kingdom.  God is always the Eternal Now and he forever speaks only one Word -Jesus, his son.  Through and in that Word are our own names spoken.  He will forever speak us with his mouth into an ever greater increase in beatitude, which is his love pouring into us.  "And I will give them a white stone with a new name..." (Revelation 2.17)
