Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise from the end of the earth! Let the sea roar and all that fills it, the coastlands and their inhabitants. Let the desert and its towns lift up their voice, the villages that Kedar inhabits; let the inhabitants of Sela sing for joy, let them shout from the tops of the mountains. Let them give glory to the Lord, and declare his praise in the coastlands.
Sing to the Lord a new song.
Why sing? Why rejoice? Because the Word has been made flesh and our transgressions have been taken from us. The old law and means of justice by it has been put to death and we with it. A new song, then, must be lifted up. From the desert, from the coastlands, from the tops of the mountains we must shout out our praise of thanks. That is to say – all parts of our being must be brought into the light of praise. All the barren parts of our heart, the desert, those that are already seeped in praise, the oceans, those parts that already feel close to the Almighty, the mountaintops – all must sing out a new song this day! Our God comes, he comes to fill the earth. All thoughts must be made new, all zeal transformed, all discouragement banished, for lo! our God has come to dwell among us forevermore! Sing out, all the earth!
