The Lord of hosts has sworn: as I have designed, so shall it be; and as I have planned, so shall it come to pass: I will break the Assyrian in my land, and on my mountains trample him under foot; his yoke shall be removed from them, and his burden from their shoulders. This is the plan that is planned concerning the whole earth; and this is the hand that is stretched out over all the nations.
The Lord of hosts has sworn:
As I have designed,
so shall it be;
You have designed our hearts for you, O Lord, and “they are restless until they rest in thee.” (St. Augustine)
and as I have planned,
so shall it come to pass:
An eternal kingdom you have planned O Lord – our home – where you shall receive eternal praise and glory.
I will break the Assyrian in
my land,
What is your land, O Lord, if not our hearts and minds? You will break the evil one who seeks to make us his own.
and on my mountains trample
him under foot;
On the high places of our hearts, O Lord, those nearest to your throne, the enemy shall be vanquished. He cannot exist in that place so near to the Eternal Godhead.
his yoke shall be removed
from them,
Our bondage to sin was broken when your Son came among us and offered the eternal sacrifice of his life. The final yoke of any slavery we have accepted or have imposed on others will be shattered on that great and glorious day.
and his burden from their
shoulders.
And now give us your yolk and burden, O Jesus! For your yolk is sweet and your burden is light. it is the burden of love!
This is the plan that is planned
concerning the whole earth;
All peoples shall praise you, O Lord! Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven!
