"The Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trial, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment -- especially those who indulge their flesh in depraved lust, and who despise authority." (2 Peter)
"Yet in the same way [as Sodom and Gomorrah] these dreamers also defile the flesh, reject authority and slander the glorious ones." (Jude)
We must live under authority. We must obey those who have been placed in authority over us. Why? Because that is the reality in which we have been created. This law is as immutable as the physical laws of the universe. It is the law which is mirrored in the Trinity itself: Christ obeys his Father. Furthermore, while an earth Jesus obeyed Joseph and Mary: "Then Jesus went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them." (Luke 2.51)
When we despise authority we despise the reality into which the Father created us. We despise the Word of the Father who was obedient to his Holy Will in all things. We despise the example Jesus gave us on earth. We despise the express commandment of the Logos, and we make a mockery of that prayer Jesus gave us in which he taught us to pray "Thy will be done Father." (Matthew 6.10)
When we despise authority we introduce disorder and chaos into our lives. We depart the Kingdom of God, which is service, submission and obedience (and therein freedom) and enter into the realm of Lucifer, whose cry became "I will not serve!" (Jeremiah 2.20) After uttering this cry and despising God's authority Lucifer was cast down to earth where he became the "deceiver of the whole world." (Revelation 12.7-9) Thus are those deceived who come to despise authority and believe themselves to be their own best standard. I have known this deception and the chaos it has wrought.
