But he said to them, ‘I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other cities also; for I was sent for this purpose.’ So he continued proclaiming the message in the synagogues of Judea.
What is “the message?” This is the first time we hear this talk of “good news” and “message” in Luke. Until this point, the activity of Jesus had been physical healings.
If we go back to Luke 4.18 we have the answer:
‘The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.’
