Later Jesus found the man in the temple and said to him, "See, you have been made well! Do not sin any more, so that nothing worse happens to you."
"Through my sin my whole body is sick." (Psalm 38.3)
Jesus admonishes the man "Do not sin any more." An admonishment is a warning. Since Jesus has the authority and power both to admonish and punish, this may, to the foolish ear, sound like a threat and be tasteless (to the fool's mind). But what ship's captain curses the light house which warns him of destruction on the rocks? Does he not look upon it as a savior? Jesus commands us. He also warns us what will happen to us if we deliberately remain in disobedience. Do we believe his warnings? It is an insult to his majesty and teachings to ignore his warnings and focus only on reward and not warning. Perhaps our good health deceives us into thinking we can be punished physically while still on earth. Perhaps we have come to disbelieve punishment after death. We so occupy our minds that we choose not to think about it.
Jesus said, 'neither do I condemn you. Go your way, and from now on do not sin again.' (John 8.11)
"You will die in your sins unless you believe that I am he." (John 8.24)
