Jesus answered them, "Do you now believe? The hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, each one to his home, and you will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone because the Father is with me. I have said this to you, so that in me you may have peace. In the world you face persecution. But take courage; I have conquered the world!"
There comes a time for most Christians when we "go home and leave Jesus alone." Perhaps we have spoken of him before others during the day but he has no part in our family life. Perhaps we cry "Lord, Lord" to others but do not have a deep, interior relationship with him in our heart, so necessary for conversion. Perhaps we meet him in prayer but do not let that interior relationship flow out before others in either silent witness or public testimony, thereby authenticating our interior life. In so many varied ways we leave Jesus alone.
God reveals this to us not so that we be condemned, disheartened or anxious. He tells us so that we have peace in him. We have that peace through humility in the knowledge of our weakness leading to great confidence in God's mercy and generosity. God is not glorified so much by our loud public proclamations of faith but rather by a humbled heart in his presence.
